Purpose of the Awards

To recognise outstanding achievements in environmental management by EMA member firms in the Province of British Columbia, and to encourage technological innovation, regulatory fairness, and the application of principles of sustainability, safety and quality.

Why Nominate?

Every year, environmental managers in British Columbia’s corporate, municipal and institutional sectors undertake projects for the primary purpose of environmental improvement, either by new project assessment and mitigation, contaminated sites remediation, energy conservation, discharge control, emissions reduction, or by corporate sustainability or social responsibility programs.

The EMA Environmental Management Awards provide an opportunity for EMA member firms to be properly recognized for outstanding efforts in environmental management, and for the environmental managers involved to highlight the importance of their accomplishments by sharing knowledge gained and lessons learned, consistent with EMA of BC’s mandate.

How To Nominate

The Award nomination form and details on Rules of Participation are included in this posting.  Award nominee individuals must be employed in an organization that is a member in good standing of the Environmental Managers Association of BC for the 2012-13 member year, which begins membership renewal/drive in Febrruary 2012.  To become a member and to understand the overwhelming benefits of membership, please click here.

Nominated Projects must be located and have been undertaken in British Columbia in the past two years, under the direction or major participation of a member organization.  This means that member organizations that are proponents are eligible.  With the consent of the proponent, who may or may not be a member, engineers, biologists, consultants, law firms, laboratories and service providers may also be eligible if they are member firms and have played a major role in the project.

Nomination and Selection Process

There are six Project Categories for Nomination:

  1. Environmental Assessment
  2. Remediation
  3. Emission Control (any media)
  4. Technological Innovation
  5. Regulatory Challenge
  6. Corporate Environmental Programs and Sustainability

Awards will be issued in any of the categories only if a project is nominated and is deemed worthy of an award, by the Awards Committee. Not all Awards may be given in any given year.  The Awards Committee will consist of qualified representatives from the institutional, commercial and industrial environmental community with expertise in one or more categories.  All decisions by the Awards Committee respecting suitability and selection for awards will be final.

Timetable

To assist EMA in planning for this event, please indicate your preliminary intent to nominate your project ASAP by email to info@EMAofBC.com . Acceptance of formal nominations will close on March 16, 2012.  Late nominations will not be accepted.  Shortlisted nominations will be notified by April 2, 2012, in order for them to provide an expanded Project Application for final judging.

A Special Evening for the Awards

We expect that the evening will be a major formal event, with high attendance by those involved with nominated projects, managers, executives, colleagues and their guests.  A Green Carpet, dinner, cocktails, music, ceremony and dancing will be enjoyed by all.  Sponsorships for any aspect of the event are welcomed.
